Basshunter - Now You’re Gone: The Album (2008)

▼I-Me-Myself▼ No Comments »

Swedish computer nerd Jonas Altberg (aka Basshunter) became an Internet phenomenon in the early 2000s with geek-friendly dance singles like “Boten Anna” (Anna Bot) and “Vi Sitter i Ventrilo och Spelar DotA” (We Sit in Ventrilo and Play DotA). Altberg began composing songs on his home computer in 1999, making them available to the general public via his website. They became a cult favorite, so much so that various clubs around Sweden started contacting Altberg with job offers. The first official Basshunter album, The Bassmachine, hit the Internet in 2004, and Altberg soon found himself entertaining offers from big-name record labels. He signed with Warner Bros. in 2006, and his sophomore album, LOL <(^^,)>, was released in September of that year. The album peaked in the Top Five in Sweden (five), Finland (four), and Denmark (three), and its lead single, “Boten Anna” (a song about an IRC bot) shot to number one on the Swedish, Dutch, and Danish charts. The follow-up single, “DotA” (a song about Warcraft III’s Defense of the Ancients), didn’t do quite as well, but still managed to peak in the Top Ten throughout Scandinavia.

How to Win Arguments - The Do, Don’t and Sneaky Tactics!

Cool Stuff & Facts, Tricky Stuff!, ▼I-Me-Myself▼ No Comments »

There is not much point in having brilliant ideas if we cannot persuade people of their value. Persuasive debaters can win arguments using the force of their reason and by the skillful deployment of many handy techniques. Here are some general dos and don’ts to help you win arguments together with some sneaky tactics to be aware of.

Do:

1. Stay calm. Even if you get passionate about your point you must stay cool and in command of your emotions. If you lose your temper – you lose.

2. Use facts as evidence for your position. Facts are hard to refute so gather some pertinent data before the argument starts. Surveys, statistics, quotes from relevant people and results are useful arguments to deploy in support of your case.

3. Ask questions. If you can ask the right questions you can stay in control of the discussion and make your opponent scramble for answers. You can ask questions that challenge his point, ‘What evidence do you have for that claim?’ You can ask hypothetical questions that extrapolate a trend and give your opponent a difficulty, ‘What would happen if every nation did that?’ Another useful type of question is one that calmly provokes your foe, ‘What is about this that makes you so angry?’

4. Use logic. Show how one idea follows another. Build your case and use logic to undermine your opponent.

Setting a folder background in Windows XP

Cool Stuff & Facts, Hacking Tips, Tricky Stuff!, ▼I-Me-Myself▼ No Comments »

Windows 9X had a unique customization feature-users could set a custom background in folders. This background could be any .jpg, .gif, .bmp file or for that matter, any picture file. Users upgrading to Windows XP were surprised and rather disappointed to find this feature missing. After a bit of research, it was found out that it was still possible to use this folder customization, but there was not GUI (Graphical User Interface) to accomplish this. Now I am going to elaborate on how to achieve this.

Let me first tell you that it is a very simple process and does not harm your system in any way. OK, so lets start off step-by-step.

Boredom is Nice!

Cool Facts!, Cool Stuff & Facts, ▼I-Me-Myself▼ No Comments »

There are a great many books, web sites, and training courses today more or less dedicated to the idea that being bored is a major sin, for which the only cure is to find ways to be busy and productive every waking moment. People who follow this idea are constantly on-the-go — any feelings of boredom quickly smothered with yet more activity.

At work, at home, at play, each moment must be filled with things to ward off the slighest possibility of being bored. As a society, we’re over-stimulated to the point of mania, like hyper-excited children in those few moments at a party before it all goes wrong and everyone starts crying. I suspect the rise in ADHD isn’t only due to eating strange chemicals in the diet; we’re training ourselves to require continual distraction, reducing our attention-span to less than a few seconds before we’re bored again.
